Become a Resident Assistant

Do you have what it takes to do one of the most difficult but most rewarding jobs on campus?

The RA role is varied and can be challenging at times due to the varied nature of the work that you do. Many students do not appreciate the full range of work undertaken by our RA team as confidentiality and discretion are vital to be successful.

If you feel that you have the right skills and personality to succeed as an RA (and we require a wide range of skills and personalities in our team), consider joining our team. We encourage applicants from all parts of our residence community so that our staff can truly reflect the community they serve.

New RA Application Checklist

Please fill out and complete the following documents as part of your application package. All materials need to be returned to the Residence Life Office in the Old SUB or emailed to no later than 9:00AM on January 17, 2019. Additional requirements are also listed.

Job Description

Creative Submission Instructions

The creative submission allows you to demonstrate strengths and other skills that may not be visible in a typical application or interview. As RAs are tasked with creating a variety of active and passive programming for students in residence, creativity is a valuable asset to anyone interested in becoming an RA. However, we aren’t art critics - we won’t be judging you on how well you can draw or whether you are aware of the rule of thirds. It is more important to us that we see/hear a genuine expression from you.

For your creative submission, we would like you to present something that shows what living in residence means to you. Please follow one of the formats below. Everything else is up to you!

  • Letter size paper (8.5 x 11)
  • Hand in a physical copy to the Residence Life Office
  • Make sure your name is on it!

Video or audio

  • Video and Audio submissions should be no longer than 90 seconds. Submissions longer than 90 seconds will not be permissible.
  • Files should be uploaded to YouTube or Delivered to the Residence Life Office on a USB key
  • Files Should be named as so: FirstName-LastName-RA Submission (Ex. John-Doe-RASubmission)
  • If a file is uploaded to YouTube a link to the submission should be emailed to, the title of the email should be: RA Creative Submission Application: First Name Last Name
  • Audio files should be MP3’s while video files may be in MKV, MP4, MOV etc.
  • Please check that files are playable prior to submitting them. Should a file not play properly it will not be permissible.
